A message from Sarah

Hello! Welcome to The Selfie Project, I am so thrilled to have you here.

As Founder and Lead Educator of the Selfie Project it is my passion and joy in life to enrich the lives of young women & challenge them to live a life beyond their wildest dreams, limited by nothing.

My big WHY

Working as a PDHPE and Dance teacher, both in Australia and the UK, I was faced with girls who were constantly asking how to lose weight, burn calories and ultimately change the body they were in. This broke my heart and I set out to educate girls about healthy lifestyles and debunk the diet culture we are promoting to our teenagers.

What grew from this was an understanding of something greater; if you empower a girl, if you make her believe that she is unstoppable and capable of incredible things, the obsession we have on bodies, weight and self-image in this society, will become far less significant. If we are challenging our young women to be educated, passionate, develop a social consciousness, make a change in the world, and stop telling them to first and foremost see themselves as a body, an image, even as ‘beautiful’, then we are on the right path to building a generation of women who do not conform to social pressure or expectations. Women who can make significant and lasting change in the world. Not to mention be a whole lot happier.

The Selfie Project exists to help young girls and women realise that their intelligence, their gumption, their thoughts, ideas and opinions, are powerful, valid and can create unstoppable good on this planet. It is this generation of young women who will change the world. If we can help them find their power, navigate the white noise that is thousands of media messages being thrown at them about beauty, and bodies, then I will feel we have achieved something.

So please, spend some time with us. Come along to a holiday program or book us to work with your girls for a full day; I can guarantee that the result will be a cohort of girls who understand that they worthy, they are brilliant and that they hold the key to making this world a better place.
